A Love Letter To Teachers

Dear teacher,

My name is Myrto Pitsava. I am an Education Technology Specialist at NUITEQ®, which is one of the most fun jobs in the world; one of the reasons it’s so much fun is that a big part of it is all about coming out to meet you and your colleagues. Providing training to teachers who want to learn more about Educational Technology is not as widespread today as the need for such professional development; so I love that my work lets me help educators with this kind of training.

I actually met some of your colleagues a few days ago. I visited them at their school to show them Snowflake MultiTeach® and all the possibilities it offers. I left the classroom full of energy and with a big smile on my face - as always after a training session.

I feel so privileged that I get to meet teachers. Having worked as a teacher for ten years, I know very well how limited teachers’ time is; there are classes to be taught, lessons to be planned, essays to be graded, parents to meet and staff meetings to attend. I remember how every new task that popped up on my to-do list had to be carefully weighed against all the other tasks on that list. What to prioritize? Something that needs attending to right away, or something that is not urgent but could be a real time-saver in the long run?

Even if teachers’ to-do lists look a little different from each others’, even if our methods and pedagogy are different, our goals are very similar. We want to take time to shape children’s minds and give them the nutrients they need to grow into beautiful flowers, into tomorrow’s kind, thoughtful, responsible citizens. We want to take time to open eyes and hearts. We want to take time to provide shoulders to cry on, ears that listen, arms that embrace and comfort and become a safe space. We want to take time to be there for our students.

So, I see it as a privilege that I am allowed to come to your schools and take up some of your time, even if I know that what I show you will help you save time in the long run. I don’t know where your thoughts are when we first meet: maybe you’re worried about a student that is falling behind. Maybe you have a difficult parent-teacher meeting coming up. Maybe you are excited to be there and learn more about Educational Technology. But no matter where your thoughts are, you always greet me with a smile.

Have I already mentioned that coming out to your school for a training session is one of the most fun aspects of my job? One reason for it is that I love Snowflake MultiTeach and the possibilities it offers to save you time and engage your students, and I love it when I see my own enthusiasm reflected in your eyes. But my main reason for it is that you keep me on my toes. You ask me questions that I don’t always have the answers to. You make me think about why I do things the way I do, and that way you help me come up with new solutions. You propose your own suggestions and ideas. Then, when our session is over, and I leave the classroom, my brain is buzzing with inspiration.

Do you know what the first thing I do is when I get back to the office? I tell my colleagues about your ideas and suggestions.

You see, we believe in listening to the users; the people who use Snowflake MultiTeach and see how it works in real classrooms. This feedback is so valuable to us that we do everything in our power to implement it.

Snowflake MultiTeach is not a finished product, nor will it ever be, because we will always strive to make it better. We strive to make it better because we know you work hard and we care about you and your students. We want to make it easier and faster for you to tick tasks off your to-do list. We want you to find out how fun and simple it is to create lessons for your students, and we want your students to see that learning is fun. We want to save you time so that you are there for your students more, to nourish their minds, open their eyes and hold their hand in yours when things get tough.

So, thank you for letting me be part of your world for a while. Together we can create great things.

All the best,

Myrto Pitsava
