Carmen Rocío Castillo

Q: Hi Rocío, please tell our readers a bit about yourself.

A: I was born in the Dominican Republic in a warm, Christian family of two parents, one brother and one sister. Most of the members of my family are educators.

I have worked as a Preschool and Elementary teacher for more than 15 years. I became an Early Childhood Principal in 2007. I have taught at different Universities in the Education Department. I hold an Education Administration Master's from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), and a Preschool and Elementary Teacher Bachelor's from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Dominican Republic. I work as part of the USAID Leer Project Facilitators team in the Dominican Republic since 2015, which is a program that trains public school teachers to improve reading strategies and instruction for the development of reading skills in Elementary grades. I also mentor and teach children and youth at my church. Being the mom of two teenagers, I am challenged to become an out-of-the-box, updated, and continuously evolving teacher.

Q: What can you tell us about your role in the company? What do you like most about your job?

At NUITEQ, I am an Education Technology Specialist. I’ve integrated the Global Content Department of the company to work with translating different types of lesson activities to Spanish, and create additional content that teachers all over the world can use.

The favorite part of my role is having the opportunity to discover new teaching and learning styles, creating meaningful educational resources for teachers and students around the world, enhancing my knowledge of standards in different grade levels and subjects, and learning from other wonderful educators.

Q: What motivates you to succeed in your role?

A: I want to be successful in my role so students and teachers around the world who are Spanish speakers have the opportunity to access quality educational technology resources, which are accurate, meaningful, fun, attractive, useful, and promote the development of higher order thinking skills.

Q: How do you occupy your free time, what are your passions etc.

A: I love reading, arts and crafts, writing, taking pictures, sharing with lots of friends in my house (eating, chatting, watching movies).

Q: Where would you like to travel to in 2020?

A: In my country, I love Salcedo's countryside and the Samaná beaches. Outside my country, my favorite place is Florence, Italy.

Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: My favorite food is a tuna sandwich with milk and orange juice (a beverage called “Morir Soñando” in my country).
