Creativity In The Classroom at BETT 2019

Creativity can be the spark that makes school interesting.

While attending BETT 2019, NUITEQ VP of Strategy and Content, Dr. Edward Tse, explores how creativity in the classroom is implemented all over the world.

In the above video, Dr. Tse interviews Scratch Inventor and MIT LEGO Professor of Learning Dr. Mitch Resnick. We learn about Mitch's approach of seeing creativity as a journey rather than a destination where the goal is to show a portfolio of progress rather than a fixed result.

Diving further into cultivating creativity, Dr. Tse attends the "Meet the speaker" session and connects with Spanish Technology Teacher Francesc Solans (Technology Teacher - INS Josep Vallverdú, Spain) who uses an entrepreneurial approach to teaching creativity. Treating the classroom like a startup is a practical approach that builds the skills that employers are looking for.

Next, Dr. Tse learns about how students react when they are presented with creative activities. He speaks with Norwegian Teacher Simen Spurkland (Teacher - Vøyenenga Upper Secondary School) who has been involved in creative classrooms for almost 20 years. Simen helps us learn that creativity may be a powerful equalizer that helps students that are struggling.

Finally, we discover how teachers are trained to promote active learning in the classroom from Teacher Ilka Nagel from Østfold University College in Norway.
