Celebrate World Oceans Day in a Remote Learning Setting

June 8th is recognized as World Oceans Day worldwide and aims to celebrate our blue planet and raise awareness about how best to protect it. This year, World Oceans Day's mission is to grow its movement and call upon world leaders to protect 30% of our Earth’s land and ocean by 2030. By protecting our ocean in what’s organizers call 30x30, we can safeguard highly protected areas and help keep our waters safe and healthy.

In 1992, Canada proposed the concept of World Oceans Day at the Earth Summit. Ten years later, the global promotion and coordination of World Oceans Day commenced. But it wasn’t until December 2008, that the United Nations officially recognized World Oceans Day be celebrated on June 8th.

Today, World Oceans Day has a Youth Advisory Council that has developed the movement, connecting with youth around the globe. World Oceans Day’s main goal is the collaborative conservation and restoration of our ocean in over 150 countries.

Suitable for students of varying ages and levels, NUITEQ Snowflake lesson activities are easy to edit and are great for empowering teachers, reducing lesson planning time, and allowing educators to personalize their curricula to meet the diverse learning needs, strengths, and interests of students in a remote learning setting. Created by NUITEQ’s Global Content Department, these standards-aligned lesson activities can be sent to students this coming World Oceans Day to improve engagement and raise awareness about ocean conservation.
