Cinco de Mayo (or Fifth of May) is an important day in Mexican history, celebrated to commemorate the Mexican Army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. The date has taken on a different significance in the United States, who associate Cinco de Mayo with the celebration of Mexican-American culture.
