A quick chat with one of NUITEQ's Senior Software Engineers

At NUITEQ® we pride ourselves on the fact that we have a diverse group of employees. Our offices are spread all over the world: from the Northern Swedish city of Skellefteå, where we have our HQ, over the ocean to North Carolina and Palo Alto, to the South, in Sao Paulo in Brazil and to the East in the Indian city of Bangalore. One might say, a day at work is basically a trip around the world. Despite the spread, we have daily contact and despite the distance, the best work we do is done together.

A diverse company means that we have the chance to learn about other cultures and their traditions, but it also gives us the chance to discover exceptional people and their values.
Today we'd like to tell you more about one of our dear colleagues from the NUITEQ® Bangalore office. We recently had a chat with one of our Senior Software Engineers, Munir Noorani and we learned about his passion for teaching and helping out students at his former university by teaching them the art of coding in C++.

Q: How about working for NUITEQ®? What's the best part of it and least favorite thing about your job?
A: The best part of working with NUITEQ® is the opportunity to work with an amazing team that is very knowledgeable and is passionate about what we do. For the second part of the question, I can’t think of much, but if I have to answer, my least favorite thing would be the travel between home and office (which I think is true for most people on this route in Bangalore now with the ever increasing traffic :)) However NUITEQ® offers us the ability to work from home, one day per week, which is great, as it reduces travel time.

Q: We recently learned that a part of your free time goes into teaching C++ to the students of your former university. Can you tell us more about it? What's your motivation to do it?
A: I am a part of the Program Assessment Committee (PAC) at the college that I graduated from. During my recent interactions with the faculty and some of the students, I realized that I could be of some help to those who were interested in learning more about programming in C++, especially to the ones that hadn’t taken up the programming electives but were keen on learning the language.
The motivation behind teaching programming is simply that I enjoy coding and helping others.

Q: What's the hardest part in dealing with your students?
A: I think it would be the imbalance in the class, with some students having previous programming experience and some not that much. That requires me to pace the classes accordingly, making sure everyone benefits from the time spent.

Q: What skills or lessons do you bring from working at NUITEQ® that helps you as a teacher?
A: The biggest lesson that I bring in from NUITEQ® is the importance of adhering to well defined coding standards. Writing high quality code, even when under pressure, is one of the most important skills a good developer needs to have.
The fact that we use features from the newer iterations of the language allows me to help the students gain updated knowledge of the C++ language.
And last but not least I’d have to say emphasis on learning. In our company learning and self-development is encouraged.

We thank Munir for sharing this with us and you for reading this.

In addition to giving back to the community through volunteering work, like the one depicted above, we at NUITEQ® work on an even wider range of activities as part of our Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) program. To read more about our CSR, click the following button:
